🏸 349 Weeks World No.1 | 🥈 3× Olympic Silver | 🏆 69 International Titles | 👑 4× All England Champion

Lee Chong Wei is a former Malaysian professional badminton player and one of the most revered figures in the history of the sport. Despite never winning an Olympic gold or World Championship title, his incredible speed, precision, and never-say-die attitude earned him the respect of millions worldwide. He is affectionately known as “Dato'” in his home country.

He held the world No. 1 ranking for a cumulative total of 349 weeks — the longest reign of any men’s singles player in badminton history. From 2008 to 2015, he dominated the sport, consistently sitting at the top of the BWF rankings season after season. This record remains untouched to this day, a testament to his extraordinary consistency and longevity.

Chong Wei created one of the most emotional and inspiring Olympic journeys in Malaysian sports history. He became the first Malaysian athlete to reach three consecutive Olympic finals in men’s singles — Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016. Although he returned home with three silver medals, his legendary rivalries with Lin Dan and Chen Long produced some of the greatest matches ever played on a badminton court.

At the YONEX All England Open — often called the “Wimbledon of Badminton” — Chong Wei claimed the men’s singles title four times (2010, 2011, 2014, 2017), proving his dominance on the sport’s most prestigious stage. Beyond that, he won over 60 BWF Super Series titles, making him one of the most successful players in the Super Series era.

In 2019, Chong Wei announced his retirement after successfully recovering from nasopharyngeal cancer, as his body could no longer withstand the demands of elite training. But his journey did not end there. He has since remained deeply involved in badminton as a coach, brand ambassador, and youth development advocate. His famous motto — “Never give up” — continues to inspire not only aspiring athletes but anyone facing adversity in life.
